This edition of LITM Rock Picks brings to you eclectic hard rock, Americana tracks with unique stories, Britpop influences, and more. The list features Marty Thompson, The Oldman Sound, Euplasia, and more.

Marty Thompson - Unknown

Swirling Americana tuned guitars, ‘Unknown’ by Marty Thompson weaves an unexpected story through its vibrant, reflective instrumentation. The song presents the paths traversed by an unnamed ghost – a person who had no name on his stone to mark the fact that he had once lived. This unnamed ghost carries into the afterlife a grief and guilt that transcends temporality. Such an interesting perspective is given music by lovely, melodic guitar layers that sound like something that would emerge on a night sitting beside the bonfire. The song does not try to do something extravagant regarding its instrumentation, and its simplistic sound is what truly makes it shine.

The Oldman Sound - Fair-weather

Making you feel like you are a part of a rom-com in a small town, ‘Fair-weather’ by The Oldman Sound brings back the sound of the 80s but with a contemporary touch to it. The instrumentation is bright and bubbly throughout, with happy, catchy guitar riffs, a super magnetic bassline, and dynamic drum patterns. What is truly special about the song’s arrangement is that it sounds like a full story, with a start, a climax, and an end, through its different shifts and progression-led movement. The vocals along with the harmonisations give the song such lovely textures. In short, this is a song that will have you returning to it multiple times.

Euplasia - Forever Remember

With a very 90s Britpop and 2000s soft rock sound blend driving it, ‘Forever Remember’ by Euplasia is the kind of song that will make you want to lift your face up to the sun and feel a sense of gratefulness for the life that is in your heart and the breath in your lungs. The instrumentation will most likely remind you of the softer songs of Oasis, with the simple yet hook driven guitar riffs at play, the steady drum patterns, and the grounding bassline. The vocals are filled with warmth and perfectly justify the hopefulness that is embedded in every word of the track.

L0VE. - There will be signs

Starting off with a deeply emotive electric guitar riff, ‘There will be signs’ by L0VE. feels like a reflection of your heart in all its messiness. The track leans towards an alternative rock sound, and exudes rawness, vulnerability, and deep emotion, through its use of fiery, roaring guitars layers and thunderous drum patterns, and a softness that is brought about by melancholic piano progressions. The song also surprises you entirely by bringing the trumpet towards the end of the song. The vocals in the song are not the center stage, and instead the song conveys its thoughts to you through its music. Laden with depth in every single musical note, this song is one for all the emo-rock lovers.

Spinors - You loved the cage

With an enigmatic, dark sound opening up the track, ‘You loved the cage’ by Spinors is fiery, it is bold, and is not afraid from straying from conventional sounds in the contemporary rock scene, which usually leans towards keeping it short and clean. The instrumentation feels like a hypnosis and an awakening at the same time, with the instrumentation moving from slowed down verse sections to eclectic chorus sections. The vocals also mirror the energy of the instrumentation and keep it loud and electric. The guitar solo section that comes towards the end embodies the overall tones of the song and leads the song towards a going-out-with-a-bang end.
