LITM Rock Picks Featuring Kasem, Afternoon In The Park, The Project and More!

This edition of LITM Rock Picks brings to you covers, songs sprayed with dark romance, transitions you’ll never see coming and more. The list features Kasem, Afternoon In The Park, The project, and more.

Kasem - Brain Stew

A fierce, rhythmic guitar riff starting out the track layered with a slower percussion set, Kasem’s ‘Brain Stew’ does the original Green Day track complete justice and more. The song is a layered beauty, with layers being added cleverly as the song progresses, creating and maintaining a  delightful tension throughout. The gritty energy in this version of the song is up a notch than that of the original. The fierce raw vibe about the song is what Kasem adds to the song as a band while staying true to Green Day’s bold energy. As covers go, this one of Brain Stew by Kasem is a perfectly rendered one which absolutely deserves a listen.

Afternoon In The Park - Blood Cocktail

An upbeat guitar riff forming the base of the track, ‘Blood Cocktail’ by Afternoon In The Park leans strongly towards the territory of dark romance and manages to do it fantastically well. Featuring muffled vocals with an edgy rhythm that gives off what you’d expect the concept of dark romance to give off, the song will give you an adrenaline rush. The song makes for a perfect Halloween song, owing to the energy it possesses, one of a darker shade of love. The song, owing to its themes, has a gothic polish all over it, which naturally makes it a song that will heighten your interest.

The project - death of me

A solid grunge sound splayed all over the track, ‘death of me’ by The project will take you back to the early 2000s grunge music scene. Powerful, raw vocals and equally powerful guitar riffs defining the track, the song is an anthem against the kind of love that drains us, the kind of love that reduces us, as the vocals sing ‘I won’t let you be the death of me.” A sound that will make you think of the discography of the Foo Fighters, it is one that will immediately catch your attention due to its catchy sound that will take root in your mind.

Tom Leonard - Clarity

Leonard Cohen-like vocals mingled with an alt-rock sound, Tom Leonard’s ‘Clarity’ traces a path that starts at confusion and ends at “clarity.” An introspective sound carrying the song, which is helped by the reverb tinged guitar riffs, the song has an airy, expansive soundscape that you can get lost in. The riffs are layered with an active percussion set and melodic synths which further add to the reflective mood of the song. Leonard’s vocals are highly emotive which adapt to the shifting instrumentation beautifully. The song with its rich soundscape and universal message makes it a song that will connect with people of all ages.

Modern Guilt - You Know Who You Are

A feel good energy driving the song, Modern Guilt’s ‘You Know Who You Are’ features unexpected transitions that will keep you on the lookout as to what’s to come. The song is a commentary on the timelessness of truth and how it comes out sooner or later inevitably. The way the song keeps shifting makes it really exciting and might remind you of The Strokes owing to their similar styles. Subtle tropical beats also come in, further adding to the rich musical texture of the track. A song that screams freshness, you are sure to add this song to your liked music playlist without a doubt.
