LITM Rock Picks Featuring Franklin Gotham, Jetglo, Rosetta West and More!

On this edition of LITM Rock Picks, each track longs for catharsis, whether it’s through loud brightness and deep-edged, spiralling depth. This list features Franklin Gotham, Jetglo, Rosetta West and more!

1. Franklin Gotham - Caroline

Caroline’ by Franklin Gotham is a song that feels bright with love, building layered, bright affection into light melodies that take on weight by their refrain. The narrator sings of Caroline, the one who got away almost, in a specific space and time.

“...She’s on my mind most of the time…my Caroline…”, and “...she’s on another level…”. The narrator paints Caroline with light, bright strokes of comfort. Wistfully too, as though they’ve missed their shot and time’s gone by. The melodies only build weight on the crushing realisation that time has gone past, specifically in the refrain.

2. Tom Collins - Little Louis

Little Louis’ by Tom Collins is bright and loud in its vulnerability, in a way that feels like like immense release. The song’s lyrics validate the experience of the forgotten, while melodies braid in weight with expression.

“...He’s just a boy, trying to find a way…”, and “...she’s just a girl…in a world…left astray…”. The narrator shines light on anguish, allowing that specific, neglected pain to grow and expand. Allowing it to be felt in waves and ways it can be digested. Doing this by showing the listeners “...the symptoms of a kid that grew up too fast…”.

3. Jetglo - Place By The Sea

Place By The Sea’ by Hetglo captures catharsis in bright comfort. The narrator reflects on how far they’ve come, while moving towards a sound that feels comforting and light. Bright guitar melodies long for escape,

“...Take me where the sun always shines…”, “...somewhere where you know I’ll always be, it that place by the sea…”. The song promises respite and release, with bright melodies pushing in to express familiar warmth. These bright melodies capture an emotional charge that feels goose-bump inducing, full and liberating. The space the sound locates the listener feels like a calm beach, far enough that our narrator can see themselves with clarity.

4. Fernando’s Eyes - Center Of Your World

Center Of Your World’ by Fernando’s Eyes is a dark tune, trudging deep through murky waters that seem to ache with longing. “...All I want…is to be the center of your world…”, the narrator seems to lament at the refrain’s emotional core.

The song seems to ooze vulnerability, while the narrator longs for connection. “...All I want is to be there by your side…all I need is to take us through the dark…”. Optimism mixes with murky darkness on this achingly vulnerable track, where emotion longs to be released and seen. Achingly vulnerable and raw.

5. Rosetta West - Circle of Doubt

Circle of Doubt’ by Rosetta West seems to fall into deep, dark spirals, seemingly following the narrator’s lead. A repetitive, looping melody takes on a dynamic, mysterious rhythm that seems to pace. “...Gotta get out…of this circle of doubt…”

These dark melodies seem to move towards the spiral, while the narrator cries out in subdued lament: “...Oh Holy Lord, can’t you hear me calling?...Can’t you hear me cry…”. It feels as though there’s only one destination down the path the song takes, as inevitable as oblivion. But the song drags us through it’s spiralling pull through doubt anyway.
