The lyrics present a simple story; the singer wants to ask someone out, but hovers back, his own nerves getting the better of him. With an infectious melody and overall composition, it’s one of those tracks that puts a pep in your step and you’d want to hear on repeat, from parties, to long road trips.
3. Sophie Garvey - Ur Just a Man
Another energetic track on the list is Sophie Garvey’s ‘Ur Just a Man’. It gives you a quick second before it takes off, firing grunge-heavy chords alongside a frenetic drumbeat. The different vocal segments keep it refreshing as they deliver a sardonic, talk-singing style of lyrics, anchoring you throughout the fast-paced rhythm zipping past you within the vortex of instrumentation. The vocal mix is muffled and crunchy, which fits perfectly with the deadpan style, matching the song’s theme of a ‘confident girl against the world’. 4. Electrobuddha – The Man Who Killed the World
With a theme of self-destruction and inevitable environmental decay, this track calls attention to important topics. The lyrics aren’t heavy-handed, instead they’re quite poetic and hard-hitting. 5. Christian Fedor – Better Not Get An Exploding
Christian Fedor’s latest single sizzles the soundscape with high-octane instrumentation, fast-paced guitar riffs, crunchy tones and a rather menacing vibe. The alt-indie project is extremely visceral, with a heavy emphasis on the guitar textures, from sandy to crunchy overdrives. The undercurrent of stormy bass notes alongside the adrenaline-fuelled drum kicks gets the heart pumping, and the song maintains a frenetic energy throughout, juxtaposing a heavy, grungier sound with an electrifyingly rapid one, setting the stage on fire. Nothing about this track is boring. This is one of those songs you’d want to hear at a rock concert.
