This edition of LITM Pop Picks brings you lilting melodies and dreamy soundscapes, featuring artists Books of Mood, Lekursi, and Twaang.
1. Books of Mood- Slow Day
Books of Mood’s Slow Day is one of those songs that feel like a Sunday morning, where you’re hugging your bed after you’ve switched off the alarm instead of hurriedly rushing towards the office. It has the atmospheric vibe of an in-between state of half-dream and half-real, where there’s a buzz of lucid instrumentation floating alongside the calm and more grounded vocals. The song uses a mix of synths, guitars, and drums in their chilliest state, slightly subdued, slightly drowsy, yet very catchy and groovy. The lyrics read like a daily conversation, except that it fits well within the rhythm, and with the singer’s soft vocal textures taking you through the song, it’ll have you feeling right at home.
2. Lekursi- Amarna Letters
Lekursi’s latest song, ‘Amarna Letters, ’ hits all the right notes with its atmospheric shimmer and foggy textures. It gives the image of a slow dance at a club, and layers the instrumentation in a slow burn fashion, bringing in a warped sensation, as it draws the listener in and out of a trance. The track uses many instruments peppering across the arrangement, atop a varying set of beats, all swirling around the main vocals. The saxophone used in an EDM track comes as a nice surprise. Overall, the track is a chill experiment, with a hypnotic composition.
3. Twaang- Without Fear
A soft pulse, crispy vocals and a hazy instrumentation is what EDM artist Twaang’s ‘Without Fear’ is made up of. The song is a great balance of the woozy ambient soundscape and the clear, glistening vocals, both of which meld together, evoking a hypnotic feeling. The vocalist shines through with her subtle vocal flourishes and velvety texture, while the piano echoes the sentiments of the track. The song also provides plenty of breathing space for the vocals to sink in, and lets the listener get a mix of steady beats and soulful instrumentation. If you like trance EDM and dreamy pop, you’ll enjoy this one!
