LITM Pop Picks featuring Tally Koren, Mortal Prophets, Holomara and More!

This edition of LITM Pop Picks brings to you tracks that will have you thinking of a thriller set in a holiday, to ones that will have you missing people that grew apart from you. The list features Tally Koren, Mortal Prophets, Holomara, and more.

Tally Koren - Music Is My Life (Remix)

Paying tribute to the power that music has over all of us, Tally Koren’s ‘Music Is My Life’ is an electro-pop track that further solidifies that power we have all felt at some point. Designed to be one for the dancefloors, the song has the perfect transitions and additions. The lyrics “Music makes me see the world as a better place,” rings true, universally. The song, rhythmically, has all the right ingredients in the right amount. The track, as a remix for the previously released song, rings true to the vision that must’ve been had, as a song that unites both dance as well as music lovers.

Mortal Prophets - Bling

Starting off in a way that will immediately pique your interest, ‘Bling’ by Mortal Prophets feels like a soundtrack to a thriller that’s set in the background of a holiday in South Asia. Beginning in a way that feels sunny and colourful it descends gradually to an end that comes unexpected - almost like an end with some darkness attached. The layered instrumentation in the song at once creates a sense of urgency as well as calm. The ethereal vocals are a lovely addition to the track that almost feel hauntingly beautiful. The instrumentation shifts while keeping the overall base steady is a thing of genius.

Holomara - Night City

The latest track by Holomara, ‘Night City,’ is a synth heavy track, becoming a prime example in the synthwave genre of music. The lyrics are mostly muffled allowing the music to be the star of the song. The song nods strongly towards 80s synth influences. It maintains a consistency in the intensity of it, which allows you to fully be encompassed by the song. Lyrically the track has a very dystopian vibe about it and the lyrics “Night City it calls me / A place for the forsaken,” and “I was born beyond these walls / Now I’m living in the system” are a reflection of that. The pitch shift at 3:22 minutes elevates the song as it moves towards the end.

Ava Valianti - Distant

If your late teenage life or early twenties had a track playing in the background like a music video, then Ava Valianti’s ‘Distant’ would be that track. The feeling of slowly feeling someone close to you inch away, bit by bit, and finding yourself in the face of it all, is perfectly described in the song. “You feel distant / I’m bearing witness / To the sickness” encapsulates the feeling of growing distance. The song has strong resemblances to Clairo’s music, owing to the heartfelt lyrics and the indie-pop elements in the song. Without a doubt you will hit the like button on this song, because this is one of those songs that puts to words and melodies what you could never say out loud.

Gilda House - Black and Gold

Adding layers one by one right at the start to draw you into the track, ‘Black and Gold’ by Gilda House is a one of a kind track. Blending psychedelic pop, synth pop with alternative rock elements, House has created a track that you can’t ignore. House’s vocals too are very light that act as a kind of paradox to the heavy tones of the musical aspect of the song. At 3:16 the guitar solo that plays out transcends the track to another level. With fierce guitar riffs, shifting drum patterns clubbed with synths, and passionate lyrics with airy vocals, the song is one you need on your playlists right now.
