LITM Pop Picks Featuring Nya, Sabrina Nejmah and more!

This edition of LITM Pop Picks spruces up the scene with wholesome jazz-pop infusions and stylized synth-led dance numbers! Featuring artists- Nya, VICK, Peruvian Bear Club, The Assist, and Sabrina Nejmah.

1. Nya – My Tears Grew Roses

Nya, the singer behind the hit song ‘Won’t Pick Up the Phone’ gives us another reason to use music as escapism. With the theme of resilience in the face of adversity, the lyrics offer a profound view on climbing back up after painful defeat. The floral imagery highlights the beauty post-climb, and the track flows from solemn to a more uplifting vibe, almost as if the music is the singer, carving her journey towards confidence and self-assurance. With the vocals being the main highlight, the singer crafts a story using changing timbres, going from soft and hazy to bold and sharp. Overall, a great track with a great message backed by a composition of equal measure.

2. VICK - ТОВА, КОЕТО ПОЖЕЛА / TOVA, KOETO POJELA

This next track by Bulgarian alt-pop band, Vick, brings in the grit, attitude, and pure determination in its 2.58 run. The grungy arrangements place the lead vocalist in the forefront, with the instruments being atmospheric underlays. The production, though stoic, makes room for soft vocals and poignant harmonies along with a few lines of rap. The beats are dynamic and warp in and out of the main structure without compromising the idea, creating engaging contrasts and mashups of slick beats. The vocals, interspersed with the guitar, create a fun, mini side quest highlighting the instrument. Overall, a vibrant, spunky track with spicy seasoning.

3. Peruvian Bear Club- Stupid

Another band in the indie-alternative scene, Peruvian Bear Club, has created a song you can jam and dance to. A perfect concoction to re-energise yourself, the song brings experimental beat sequences and modern synths to pick up the adrenaline levels, creating a dynamic underbed of heavy beats and controlled, chaotic synergy. The vocals, layered on top, bring a smooth, glistening, glass-like quality to the track, balancing out the blurry haze of the instrumentation. The silky voice flows smoothly through vocal flourishes with no hiccups, while the background vocals bring in some equally challenging harmonies alongside. With its warping bends and synth-pop style of crunchy beats, it’s definitely a loop-worthy track!

4. The Assist- Divorced for Christmas

We get a fun-fuelled celebration with The Assist’s latest track, ‘Divorced for Christmas’. Much like its title suggests, the song is all about the chaos of everyday life, taking a pause for the love of the festive season. Its happy composition is a contrast to the topic at hand, creating an amusing tone and making the track singable, playful, and fun. The song starts with a soulful, high-energy composition with the piano, guitars, and drums, reminiscent of a typical family gathering erupting into song and dance. The pop and rock elements blend together to create a nostalgic Hallmark film-esque picture with its celebratory instruments, woozy voices, clinking of glasses, and cheers of joy.

5. Sabrina Nejmah- Don’t You Worry

A great track to wrap up this list with is Sabrina Nejmah’s ‘Don’t You Worry’, a soulfully quirky song that’s sure to lift your spirits, maybe all the way up into the starry skies, with its delightfully vivid descriptions of outer space, much like a childhood pop-up story book, or a game of intergalactic space travel! Its jazz-pop-fueled composition might invoke some cheer and nostalgic familiarity while the vocals bring in a youthful timbre, reiterating the same vibe. The instrumentation is a great balance of youthful energy and old-soul charm with its blend of the saxophone and vocals. Ultimately, the track as a whole has delivered, and as a track on the whole, it’s a warm embrace and an ode to childhood with quality musicianship!
