From peppy rhythms to dance-worthy tunes, this edition of LITM Pop Picks has got you covered, featuring the artists- Otim, LUNA & The Gents, Siri Neel, Mishell Ivon, and Patience Please.

1. Otim – Dreaming of You (Remix)

A remixed version of the pop hit by Selena, ‘Dreaming of You’- Otim’s version, infuses the song with a stoic, metallic sheen.  It gives the track a unique, modern spin, and the artist also emphasises the hypnotic nature of the original, shaking it up a bit and bringing out a more atmospheric, R&B flavour. The crisp and lilting vocals from Selena are maintained in the track, while the overall soundscape shapeshifts into a more crystalline, ambient vibe. The song starts with a slow metallic pulsation and moves to a more trance-like experience, and the vocals take over with the same crunchy underbed of the rhythm. Overall, an enjoyable reimagination of the original! Listen here-

2. LUNA & The Gents- Perfect Day

“Let’s live for the moment” is not only the lyric, but the theme of the song by LUNA & The Gents, who’ve brought out this banger. The track feels like one of those songs you’d listen to while going off on a road trip, and this is also captured wonderfully in the artists’ music video. The lead singer’s energy is infectious, and you can’t help but sing along with her and the peppy guitar grooves, which lead up to an engaging guitar solo. If you’re looking for a jovial, energising country pop song to dance to, this would be a good recommendation!

3. Siri Neel- I Think I Said Something

Indie pop artist Siri Neel has just dropped this experimental ear worm. Its got great elements of synth infused girly pop that’s very reminiscent of the 2010s and Neel’s vocals have a unique glistening quality to it that works well with the overall funky soundscape. The song begins with in a slow burn fashion, and moves into a more upbeat, energetic rhythm, which allows Neel to experiment with the vocals licks, as she goes from a sharper tone to a subdued one, or even a hazy whispered delivery. It’s a fun, enticing song that’s entertaining from start to finish.

4. Patience Please- Madeline

Another experimental and rather quirky track is Patience Please’s ‘Madeline’. It comes with an equally quirky avant-garde-esque video for equal measure. The song is a genre-bending experience that pulls from alternative to rock and some elements of pop, the lyrics blending discomfort with heartfelt admission, almost like a soliloquy. The arrangement uses different textures from soft violin legatos to smooth guitar fills, and this works great with the vocals, who brings in a more tender, relatable vibe and delivery. The song ends in a calm, composed, and wispy fade out.

5. Mishell Ivon - Good Love

Mishell Ivon’s ‘Good Love’ is all about the good vibes and atmospheric tension. It’s an upbeat pop arrangement with some funky hooks that’ll make your feet tap. The synth interplays, the compact vocals, and the energetic rhythm synergise together to form one cohesive unit, and it’s definitely a throwback to the 1900s. The composition pulls from electronic to classical tones- like the piano to create an endearing ambient mix that’s engaging to the listener, and it doesn’t get boring.
