Chris) Hi Jack, how are you today?

Jack)
I’m alright, hope you are too!

Who would you say have been your biggest influences so far?

James Vincent McMorrow has been a great influence for me, from his earlier albums to his recent stuff. I really like the way he describes a scene using lyrics, something that I think is very Leonard Cohen of him. Not only that but he has one of the silkiest, most emotional voices I’ve ever heard. And now, somehow, he’s even moved into a subtle RnB style, which is right up my street at the minute. Ticks all round, really!

You have just released your new single ‘Before You Love Me’. Can you tell us the inspiration behind the song and how you recorded it?

I wrote the song because I was a tired of getting into relationships with people who weren’t ready to be in them. As if to say, “Before you love me, make sure you’ve got your shit sorted”. I recorded it in a bedroom with a couple of guitars, a bass guitar and a microphone. I programmed the drums into Ableton and just looped some guitar chords and started singing some melodies then the song formed from that. It was quite a fast production process!

And are you pleased with how it turned out?

Yeah, I love the song and I love the simplicity of it. I think it’s a very easy song to grasp emotionally - I’m all about creating accessible music.

The single is on your upcoming debut album ‘Seventh Sense Libido’ due out early next year. Can you tell us about the album and what we can expect to hear on it?

The main theme of the album is that you always feel like a child and are never fully ready to handle your own emotions. The songs are about various relationships in my life, which have often been very intense and controlling but I never seem to realise they’re so toxic until I get out! Often led along by sex and excitement, the more erratic and uncontrollable a situation is - the more I’m drawn in. The album has been a healing process through which I’ve discovered I’m not the only one with these thoughts and feelings.

This has been a strange year to say the least, what about your plans for 2021?

I have two albums worth of material ready to go! So, there’s definitely more to come and I’m just going to carry on regardless of what happens. Everyone needs new music so I don’t feel the slightest bit discouraged.

And finally, what would be your dream ambition as an artist?

Probably to perform live with an orchestra and a huge band. I’d love to just make a massive sound in a big cathedral or something.  I’d also love to have a large team and a label that I trust - at the minute I’m too standoffish and suspicious so I’m doing everything myself. But hopefully that will change in the future!
