Emerging from the indie-alternative rock scene is Dublin-based HitherFurther’s latest track, ‘A Man Amongst the Ruins’. It’s a track that begins softly and unsuspectingly simple, building itself into a tall, formidable event—almost like lighting a candle that slowly grows and spreads into a fiery, volcanic flame.
The soundscape is derived from two different moods: one peaceful and observant, with muted colours—or in this case, instruments—and the other, a slow, ominous invasion. The song takes a "slow burn" approach towards a towering soundscape, with amp-driven atmospheric buildup as the instruments become more hazy, scrunchy, and crackly with heavy overdrive. The band delivers a striking performance, balancing the softs and louds without the whiplash.
The slow-motion fusion feels cinematic, evoking visuals from the film Melancholia, as the lyrics ask: “Standing on the edge of an unknown future, will it end in surrender?” Listen here-
