Live review: Nathan Ball at The Lexington 01/12/15

Words by Giedre Zaveckaite

I had been wanting to see Nathan Ball for a little while and was stoked to be at The Lexington for his last show of 2015. Nathan’s alternative folk has been compared to Ben Howard – no bad thing, but in my opinion he has grown out of his formative sound in the past year or so. It has matured, intensified and now his deep throaty vocals coupled with the songs’ mesmerising dark feel draws closer comparisons to RY X or Bon Iver.

Joined by his full band, the whole show in a nearly packed Lexington was soaked with humbleness yet felt intimate and even a bit other-wordly due to Nathan’s deep, wistfully longing vocals and carefully accentuated singing.

Nathan will be releasing a new EP early 2016 and I recommend everyone to keep an eye. And if you get the chance, go to see him live; immerse yourself into a deep sea of melancholy.
