Jane Weaver's dreamy and spacey voice will leave you tranced and dazed with this mesmerising single. There’s a beautiful video accompanying the track, too, stitched together from clippings of foreign magazines, inspired by the vintage animation films that Jane watched while making her latest LP ‘The Silver Globe’. It’s a well put together composition of art and animation, and hard to believe it was all done on an iPad mini.
’I Need A Connection’ starts with a lone synth rhythm that is later accompanied by the drums, but when the voice kicks in it makes for something that is unique and brings the track to life. I wasn't entirely in love with the opening melody until a few seconds before the first chorus, which delivers in spades and is the true highlight of the whole track. The effortless delivery of the vocals makes for a tasty treat further amplified by those Eighties-inspired synths that fill the space in the background, especially in the chorus where it gets a bit more meaty and emphatic. It's a pop-inspired track that has a cute flair to it and is quite inspiring as it was apparently motivated by Weaver’s kids, who contributed to the overall tone of the song and video.
Over time, the intro is a grower and, as a whole, ‘I Need A Connection’ is a neat package with an adorable video that really brings the music to life and gives that extra bit of flair to such a lovely voice. Jane Weaver has been on tour throughout this October to promote the LP – there's still a few dates left at which you can give her your attention.
