These LITM Singer-Songwriter Picks lean into acoustic folk, keeping things light yet poignant, featuring Clayton Bellamy, Hamish, and Alexander Deveney!
1. Clayton Bellamy – I Miss Tom Petty
Led by folksy, acoustic instrumentals, Clayton Bellamy’s I Miss Tom Petty brings an overarching country sound to a song about the bittersweet feeling that comes with realising you’ve grown up – when you realise you miss a particular artist, not just for their music but also the times, people, and experiences associated with it. This is a song that isn’t afraid of wearing its heart on its sleeve: both lyrically and in sound, it carries a raw, vulnerable quality to it that puts you at ease instantly. Sincere in its nostalgia, this track will take you back to some of the best moments of your life.
2. Hamish – Singing in My Soul
From Hamish’s album Picture in My Bag comes Singing in My Soul, a song built on foundations of folk but that carves its own identity. It’s minimal and quiet, allowing the message to shine: love, at its best, is something that becomes a part of you, not something that influences you from the outside. Even when the song blooms open, it does so with no grandeur, letting the saxophone layer come in and out naturally instead of announcing it. On the surface, Singing in My Soul has a relatively long runtime – of just over seven minutes – but these seven minutes pass you by with no difficulty, letting you get into the zone at your own pace. 3. Alexander Deveney – More Alive
Alexander Deveney’s More Alive is an upbeat indie-pop track that shines because of its rawness. There is nothing unnecessarily complex about it, removing any obstructions that usually stand between art and its receivers; instead of relying on expanse or elaborate production, it keeps things accessible, making it the kind of song you could imagine singing along to at an intimate gathering, even if you’ve never heard it before. The urge to make life fuller than it is is evident in every note, and it’s a message worth taking in a world where everything is created to keep you in monotony. Check it out here!
