LITM Pop Picks This Week, featuring Annie and The Jays and more!

In this edition of LITM Pop Picks, we have Annie and The Jays and more!

Annie and The Jays - “If You Wanted To You Would”

A soulful pop number from the house of Annie and The Jays, “If You Wanted To You Would” is a mellow gentle rendition of a wistful remembrance of a relationship, told through a beautiful vocal performance and energetic vocal performance. As the song unfolds, we quickly realise that the vocal performance and presentation is the star of the show here — and the rest of the ensemble functions as an effective second fiddle — and that makes for an involved, cathartic listen. All in all, a great track to listen to! Check it out here:

Kristen Castro - “Amsterdam”

A Mexican-American singer and songwriter, Kristen Castro brings a gentle, mellow sound in her songs — thoughtfully presented and executed, her latest single, “Amsterdam”, tackles the sense of longing for home, being far away from one’s loved ones; and does a bang up job while at it. The instruments keep the rhythms chugging along rather nicely, while the gentle, almost-whispered vocal performance adds a touch of further flair and dimension to this track. Coupled with a bright and energetic mix, this song really does come full circle rather well. Check out the track here!

Frank Joshua - “Days Like These”

A singer and songwriter who’s been on the steady rise in popularity these past two years, Frank Joshua is back with another single — and on “Days Like These”, he blends a fast-paced dance pop base with gentle, wafting country and blues guitars, a laid-back vocal presentation, and acoustic guitars that stand out in their sheer simplicity. As the song takes you through your paces, you’re left swaying and bobbing your head to the steady rhythm, while the vocal harmonies paint rich, vivid pictures in your head — all in all, a winner of a track! Check it out here:

Yulan & Blaise - “Quench”

The duo of Yulan and Blaise, on their latest single, “Quench”, bring forth quite the distinctive sound in terms of a cinematic, almost orchestral sound. While the sublime vocal presentation is the standout on this track, what one can’t forget is the sheer weight of the atmosphere behind it. Beautiful sound design, beautiful brass lines, tasteful reverbs and textures punctuate the vocals at every step, creating a melodic progression that’s just as varied and poignant as the songwriting — making for a listen unlike any other. Gabriel Munoz - “Cake”

An LA-born and raised pop artist, Gabriel Munoz is fast on the rise as part of the next wave of Hollywood songwriters — and his latest single, “Cake”, spares no shame in introducing itself with its signature energy. Right from the first bar, deep basses and a thumping kick lay down the rhythmic foundation to this track, while the stylistically unique vocals make for the perfect icing on top of the (if you’ll excuse me) cake. The mix is driving, powerful, and serves to capture and elevate the essence of the energy on this track — all while retaining the signature effortlessness that makes this track so addictive.
