West London producer and DJ Jstar has been a key player in the city’s reggae scene for quite some time and had some hand in inspiring Major Lazer’s early output. Latest single ‘Bad Boy Stepping’ is a slice of bass-heavy reggae featuring warbling dubstep bass, percussive snaps ricocheting around the mix, and glimmers of live horns peeping into the arrangement courtesy of trombonist Gareth Thompson Darling and jazz trumpeter Alex Manuel Figuera. For all its futurist production values and natty arrangements, the message on this one is pretty simple: cut the crap ‘bad’ boys.
Bad Boy Stepping will be released on 10 February
