Listen/review: Husky Rescue – My Shelter

Words by Nick Mee. @Nickjmee

Soundtrackers of so much early noughties merrymaking, Catskills Records – the Brighton-based label and curator of funky downbeat and leftfield breaks – is releasing a welcome retrospective compilation to celebrate 20 years of releases. Of the prime producers, DJs and bands from the Catskills roster, standouts include Pepe Deluxe, Bushy, Black Grass and The Mexican, as well as those ambient Finns Husky Rescue, who have recorded an exclusive new tune for the album, which you can hear below. ‘My Shelter’ crosses folky electro melodics with an aura of Scandi-noir — its blips clip and bass-drops throb ominously before the housey chorus offers anthemic release. The song certainly has a more foreboding feel than much of the band’s previous, but then they’ve never been an act to pin down easily and, as such, are the ideal showpiece for one of the land’s more distinctive labels.
