Listen/review: Otherkin – I Was Born

Words by Dein Moore @deingerous1

Otherkin return to our ears with their latest single 'I Was Born’, which has already found its way on to BBC Radio 1 courtesy of Annie Mac and is the first taste of what to expect from their upcoming EP 'The New Vice'. Not wasting any time in getting started, the track’s opening guitar riff and, in fact, the whole thing, is akin to Foo Fighters. ‘I Was Born’ stays bold throughout as the rest of the instruments and vocals add to the composition to keep the energy levels high, never losing punch or effectiveness at any point.

The chorus is brazen and ear grabbing, with punchy riffs and catchy licks that never overstay their welcome. Chunky, hooky and brief, ‘I Was Born’ is a great first single to what should be a stellar second EP from the Dublin band; a catchy, energy-fuelled song that acts as a successful tease of what's to come. ‘I Was Born’ will be out on 8 April and the band play live at the Black Heart in Camden, London, a few days later, on the 13th.
